hey everyone! so i just finished ap world, and i actually really enjoyed it! it was challenging, but i really enjoyed the class, and i hope that you guys will too. to help you out, here are some resources to use during the class or while studying for the exam! best wishes!
videos and things to help you understand the material better
getafive.com literally a lifesaver, tons of free videos on all of the subjects plus a diagnostic quiz!!!!! v good!!!!
crash course john green teaches you about history and it’s v nice
mankind: the story of all of us is a really good documentary series by the history channel. it’s on netflix and it’s great for review.
flashcards and review questions
learnerator yes!!!!!!!!!! lots of review questions!!!! modeled off of ap exam questions!!!!! yes!!!!!
my quizlet folder this is the folder that i used to help me study for chapter quizzes. i collected these quizlets over the semester, and all of them (except the finals one) include questions directly from my teacher’s quizzes (they’re from the test bank used for the The Earth and its Peoples textbook, but they can help you even if you’re not using that textbook).
quizlet flashcards are good, but don’t get too caught up in trying to memorize exact names and dates etc.
practice tests
please please there is nothing better for you to do to study for the ap exam than to actually take practice tests i promise
a practice test in pdf format based off of the actual test format. not on official college board approved test, but good for practice
unfortunately, there aren’t any official exams online that i could find. my best advice: get an exam prep book that includes a practice test/practice tests. i recommend princeton review!
maps and things
at first, geography won’t really seem to be all that important for ap world, but i promise it is. a lot of exam questions will refer to parts of the world in non-specific ways (such as subsaharan africa, southeast asia, western europe etc.) and you’re gonna need to know what countries/empires are included in those regions!
interactive maps YES YES YES these are maps that let you test your knowledge on them! they asks questions like “where was such-and-such invented” and things like that and have you answer by clicking on locations on the map! perfect!!!!
miscellaneous tips
do your reading! don’t just listen to your teacher’s lectures in class. actually read about it in the textbook. not only will you know the material better, most teachers actually give quizzes over chapters of the textbook, and reading a chapter summary just won’t be enough.
you’re actually going to need to study. ap world is one of the most popular ap classes for freshman, and, speaking from experience, a lot of us freshman aren’t super used to actually needing to study for things. if you don’t know how to study, it’s time to learn!
memorization is helpful in lots of subjects, but learning the “big pictures” of things is more important for ap world. look for patterns! remember that old phrase about history repeating itself.
look at the periodization of things. why is the second period defined as 600 bce to 600 ce? what is the significance of those dates? knowing why the periods are defined the way that they are can be very helpful.
be extra extra familiar with anything regarding religion or trade/cultural diffusion!!! these are very important themes on most ap tests!!!
get a review/exam prep book and use it.
essays can be v stressful, but as long as you know the material well and follow the rubric, you’ll be fine. be extra extra familiar with the rubric!!!!!!!!!
bad grades don’t define you as a person. remember that this is a college-level course!
